Corona Times: Move to Berlin

Berlin is best known for it’s alternative living, relentless nightlife, and gritty character.

To many it’s considered to be one of the coolest cities in the world.

To me, well, I think those people haven’t tried living here…

Move to Berlin – Is the Struggle Worth It?

Moving to a new city has its own list of complications, but moving to a different country whoa!

Then go ahead add a national language that you don’t speak (like German) and you’ve got yourself a tough road ahead.

One that I’m currently still navigating.

However, with more than a year of struggles under the belt, I feel I can confidently answer the question. And the answer, is a hard NO; the struggle isn’t worth it.

The apartment searching, the bureaucratic bs, the snail paced health system. The lack of advanced technology, the overpopulation of city vehicles, and the weather…

Ugh the weather!

Honestly, if my partner wasn’t based in Berlin, I would’ve been gone by now. Long gone. Straight outta Berlin and onto another city. (A much warmer, sunnier city.)

Of course, since I only moved here in October of 2020, my experience of the city has been purely tainted by the Corona crisis. And, according to most locals, the city completely changed with the times.

So taking that into consideration, with the past Berlin aside, present Berlin is pretty shitty.

But if you’re still set on making the move to Berlin, or you’re curious about the struggles that come with it, be on the lookout for my upcoming post What Makes Berlin So Difficult?
