Getting laser eye surgery in the US is expensive.

And because health insurance companies consider it to be a “cosmetic” operation, you’re pretty much footed with the entire bill – and that bill is expensive. When I first started looking into Lasik, the cost of surgery (in my home state of Indiana) was going to be $2000 per eye (and insurance would’ve only covered 15% of that). After some research, I discovered many people actually travel to other countries, like Canada, to have the surgery done because the cost is much less – but even Canada is quite pricey. That’s when I learned about the surgical world of Turkey. Not only is Lasik in Turkey significantly less, but there’s an entire culture of people traveling there specifically for surgical reasons – both in and outside of Europe.

So, if you had the choice between spending $4000 on laser eye surgery or spending $4000 on a roundtrip flight to Turkey, covering all your travel expenses plus your surgery, wouldn’t you rather go to Turkey?

The Cost Of Lasik In Turkey

Laser eye surgery is significantly less expensive in Turkey.

The value of the Turkish lira has roughly held a 10:1 ratio for the dollar for the past 2 years. With that information, I decided to take the step and after an extensive amount of research, I flew to Izmir, Turkey last June for Lasik. After contacting a few different hospitals to compare prices, I found a place that felt right for me. The cost of the total eye surgery was 1500 euros – TOTAL. Considering that the dollar and the euro are currently about equal, that’s almost a $2500 savings from what I would’ve paid in the US.

So if you’re considering laser eye surgery (or any other type of surgery for that matter), I highly recommend looking into our Turkish neighbor for more affordable options. You’ll be able to fly to a completely unique and beautiful country, pay all your expenses, and return home all within the same $4000 budget. Plus you’ll get to experience one of the most spectacular aspects about Turkish culture: the cuisine.

Why spend more when you can do more and spend less?

Your Well-Being

The best part about spending less on laser eye surgery, is that you don’t even have to compromise on safety.

Think of Turkey like the master of all laser eye surgeries. They perform more eye surgeries per year than almost any other country in the world.

My last photo with glasses. Taken only moments before my Lasik eye surgery.

This makes them one of the leading countries in this special field. Last year alone, Turkey earned $100 billion in medical tourism. Of which, medical services were provided to around 1.2m European tourists. These are current facts. And the numbers are continuing to grow each year.

Laser eye surgery in Turkey is extremely safe. With medical tourism on the rise, its much easier for people to have access to superior quality healthcare facilities and treatment. Plus with accredited ophthalmologists that have studied within America and Europe, you can rest assured you’ll be in good hands.

But most importantly, safe hands.

The Equipment

In addition to affordable prices and safe medical environments, Turkey has some of the best state-of-the-art clinics

Meaning, they also have the most modern medical technology and advanced technological infrastructure out there when it comes to eye surgeries, like Lasik. This results in more precise lasers and advanced techniques, making it more likely to achieve 20/20 vision post surgery.

Advances in this type of laser technology allows for wider ranges of vision prescriptions. Which means people, like me, who once had -3.25 in one eye and -3.50 in the other, have better chances at a life with perfect vision. (My eyesight after Lasik in Turkey is actually 20/20.) So if you were once told you weren’t qualified for corrective eye surgery before, now you may. Thanks to modern medical technology.

So, if you’re worried about having the most up-to-date equipment, Turkey has you covered. Every hospital I visited in Izmir, offered this advanced technological infrastructure. A high quality standard you will find all throughout the country.

One more reason to go to Turkey to get it done.
